We have two services to choose from each Sunday:
a contemporary service at 9 a.m. with a praise band of instrumentalists and vocalists who lead the service in a mix of new and traditional music, with song lyrics projected on a screen, or
a traditional 11:00 a.m. service with Chancel Choir and organ or piano accompaniment to lead the congregation in the praise of God. Both services include a children's sermon, sermon preached from the day's lectionary Bible (click to be redirected to lectionary)passages, prayer, and offering. Nurseries are available during each service and during the educational hour between the services.
The Lord's Supper is USUALLY served the first Sunday of the month, as well as at other special times of the year. We have an open table (all may participate).
beginning in July through Labor Day, we have a combined 10:00 a.m. service which mixes the elements of both traditional and contemporary worship styles.
What should I wear? St. Andrew is a family with a wide variety of fashion tastes. You'll find everything from jeans and t-shirts to more traditional dresses and suits and ties and lots in between.
St. Andrew believes strongly in the centrality of worship in the life of the Christian community, and that includes children! That said, kids learn to worship in stages by becoming part of the service as they can understand it. Here's what you might consider:
Infants through age 3 - may stay in the nurseries in the Preschool Hallway adjacent to the sanctuary, where childcare providers lovingly care for them. We also have a Cry Room just around the corner from the Sanctuary entrance, where parents may take their infants and still hear the worship service.
Ages 4 and 5 - participate in the first part of the worship service, praising God in song and fellowship with other worshipers, leaving to go to the nursery after the children's message.
First graders and older- participate in the entire service, where worship is "caught" more than it is "taught." Even though young children may not understand everything that happens, they will learn through experience that they may glorify God right alongside their older family members. Consider using one of our worship bags, found at the entrance to the sanctuary.
Church members prepare a meal at the Salvation Army, Bank Street, in downtown Suffolk on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Members are asked to provide cupcakes to be served as dessert. They are due on the Wednesday prior to our Soup Kitchen date.
St. Andrew supports the Suffolk Food Pantry. Members bring in items each month that have been listed on "reverse offering" slips received when they exit the worship service.
