Kirk Night

What in the world is a “Kirk Night”? Kirk is the Scottish word for church, so “Kirk Night” is an evening spent at church.

At St. Andrew, Kirk Night is an evening that includes a meal and programming for all ages. The Fall season of Kirk Night begins Wednesday, 13 September and runs through 15 November. Come for the meal, join us for the classes, or take part in both. Here are the details:

Dinner. Kirk Night dinners are provided by a different church organization each week. Check the church bulletin on Sunday to find the menu for Wednesday. Dinner begins at 5:45 p.m. and ends at 6:30 when classes start. The cost is $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children, with a maximum charge of $20.00 per family.

Classes. Join our classes for elementary-aged children through adults. Nursery care is available for our youngest participants in Room 12 on the Preschool Hallway. Classes begin at 6:30 p.m. and run through 7:30 p.m.

Youth Group

Our youth group is designed for students 6th grade and up. We meet on Wednesday nights starting with dinner at 5:45 and concluding our program at 7:30. In addition to the regular sessions of Kirk Night during the school year, we have special activities during the month of December and also participate in our early Christmas Eve service in many ways. Youth help lead worship in various ways throughout the year. During the summer, there are many opportunities to help serve in our community and in other communities for our mission trip. We also meet for fun and fellowship. We love company and encourage youth to bring a friend too!

Children

Music Makers Children’s Choir practice from 6:30-7:00 in the Children’s Music Room. Children from Kindergarten – 5th grade can participate in this child-centered music program. Children are introduced to new songs, musical prayers and instruments that are all combined in Worship to praise God.

Children’s Art Class meets in Room 103 on the first floor of the education building, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Kids will explore the story of the Last Supper as they learn about various artists’ depictions of this story and make their own set of Jesus’ disciples out of polymer clay.

Childcare

Nursery care is available for infants through 3 year olds. 4 and 5 year olds may attend the nursery if parents are in class or practice. Older children must either be in a class or with their parents during the 6:30-7:30 time period.

Adult Class

A Little Lower than the Angels.” In a time when we sometimes despair about what we see humanity doing and wonder what difference we can make, Pastor Gillian will share examples of regular human beings who have done remarkable good in the world. If you are not able to attend Pastor Gillian’s class in person on Wednesday evenings, sign up for a Zoom class on Monday afternoons at 2 p.m. Contact Beth Lyon-Suhring for the Zoom link.

Music Practice

Each Wednesday the Chancel Choir meets from 7:15-8:30 pm for our weekly rehearsal. No audition, no previous experience is necessary – just a willingness to share your talents! Music reading is preferred, but not required. Our Chancel Choir helps to lead worship each Sunday during the program year. Please consider joining us.

Christmas Worship Services

Blue Christmas Worship
Wednesday, 12/15, at 6:30 p.m.

For many people, Christmas is a particularly difficult time as they remember the loss of loved ones and the other losses of life. While some rejoice at the delights of the Christmas season, others feel their pain more deeply. Gather with us in the Sanctuary to acknowledge all these losses, to grieve those who are no longer with us, to remind ourselves of the faith that sustains us through all of life, and to worship God who came to be with us and promises that even when we walk through the dark places, we have nothing to fear.

Two Christmas Eve Services

4 p.m. Family Service
Music, scripture, and a special children's message will focus on the young (and the young at heart) at St. Andrew's early Christmas Eve service. The service will last approximately 40 minutes. Childcare will be available.

7 p.m. Communion Service
We will welcome the coming of the Christ Child with music, scripture, a homily, and Communion. The service will end in candlelight. There will be no childcare available for this service
