Heart (cardiovascular) disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Some heart diseases are beyond our control as they can be caused by infection, heredity or environmental influence. By far, most of us can maximize our heart health by committing to live a heart healthy lifestyle. Your life style choices are the best defense against developing cardiovascular diseases like high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure, and more. These same ideas help you manage the disease process if you should be diagnosed with one of them. You might have made resolutions this year to make better choices in what you eat and drink, to exercise more, control stress or stop smoking. Positive changes in these areas will improve your heart health. You can even calculate the "age " of your heart with various surveys found on line. I want you to live a long, healthy life so that you can enjoy all of life's precious moments that God has in store for you.
